Places of worship in Diss will throw open their doors to cyclists pedalling to as many churches as possible as part of the sponsored Ride & Stride.
The Norfolk Churches Trust organised bike ride is an annual event in September — this year on September 8 — with churches of various denominations welcoming visitors.
Those taking part in Diss include St Mary Parish Church; the Bethel Chapel and the Methodist Chapel on Victoria Road; the Christian Community Church on Vince’s Road; the Baptist Chapel on Denmark Street; United Reform church on Mere Street; Catholic Church of St Henry Morse on Shelfanger Road; Quaker Meeting House on Frenze Road; and the Salvation Army Citadel on Sunnyside.
The annual event has become popular with cyclists in both Norfolk and Suffolk but you don’t need to be on two-wheels. Those taking part can walk, ride or drive around, stopping off at as many churches and chapels as you can along the way.
Be sponsored for your visits or simply make a donation to the Norfolk Churches Trust or to a nominated church or chapel and know that your money is helping to preserve these ancient and important buildings for future generations to enjoy.
Last year the event raised almost £100,000, made up of donations (some large but many small) that collectively make a huge difference to help preserve Norfolk’s churches.
