A 16-child playschool collected a whopping 137 bags of clothes for a fundraising organisation last month.

Merryfields Playschool is a part of the Bag 2 School scheme, which has paid out more than £32m to PTAs and friends of school groups in 15 years.

Schools collect unwanted clothes and textiles which are then sold to Bag 2 School for 40p per kilogram. These are collected partly through donations and partly giving out empty bags to collect from doorsteps later in the week.

Sharon Everett, manager of Merryfields, said: “It’s a brilliant way of fundraising. One parent brought in 47 bags, and we’ve already got four bags for the next drive.”

The amount of money raised has been steadily increasing since the school began the scheme over a year ago, rising from £88 to £128. The school does around four drives a year.
