There may be months still to go until the festivities but planning is already underway for this summer's Diss Carnival — and you can be involved.
The hugely popular free community event relies on its army of locally-minded volunteers who give up their time to help make sure the celebrations go smoothly.
Last year, as many as 7,000 people flocked into Diss to enjoy the colourful ‘Water Wonderland’ parade and Fun Day afterwards on the Park. The day was a huge success, thanks in large part to the hard work of the carnival committee and a number of volunteers.
This year’s event will be taking place on June 9, 2019 with a pun-laden theme — Pre-Diss-Toric — so expect plenty of dinosaur and cavemen themed costumes.
Organisers are once again on the look out for people who can help out. A spokeswoman said: “We are still in need of volunteers to sign up for helping on the day.”
As well putting something back into the community, volunteers can enjoy being part of the team.
It is one of a number of ways that local people can get involved. People can also enter the colourful celebration procession, have a stall at the Fun Day or give a performance at the main arena.
Sponsors are also being sought. The carnival is completely free entry and the organisers would like to keep it that way so every little helps. Anyone who would like to support the carnival (and future carnivals) financially can enquire about the various sponsorship packages.
