Big day in young lives: remembering first day at school at Diss Infants

It’s a big day in very young lives and then just as now the first time setting foot in a new school is something you will never forget.
As schools in Norfolk return after the summer holidays there will be a mix of nerves, excitement, and possibly even a few tears, as youngsters arrive in their new classrooms.
Some will be growing up fast as they start big school for the first time, others moving up a year into their new classes with new teachers, but for really young new pupils it will be the biggest day as they arrive at the school gates for the very first time.
These pictures from our archives show young children on the first day of school at Diss Infant School in 1969.
From meeting new classmates to learning while playing and taking a break for a mini bottle of milk — remember them? — it is all a new experience.
Are you one of these eager youngsters with their whole school lives ahead of them? Or do you recognise a loved one or relative? Tell us in the comments below…
