Nestled on the border between Norfolk and Suffolk, Diss Emporium is a new business hoping to attract antiques dealers and collectors from far and wide.
Located in Vinces Road, Diss, and featuring 4000sq ft of space plus a cafe, the antiques, collectables and bygones warehouse is the new business venture of Henrietta Lewis and Alan Knight.
Both keen antique collectors the pair have dabbled in the trade for many years.
But it is only now, since retiring from the pub trade in 2017 that the pair have been able to take their passion one step further.
Ms Lewis said; “We’ve dabbled in antiques for years and years but this is my little dream, to have somewhere like this.”
Despite both being from Bury the pair said they chose Diss for its location on the county border and connection to the established auction rooms T W Gaze, who have welcomed them to the town.
Mr Knight said; “We’re right on the edge so we would like to appeal to both counties.
“It does seem to be a nice little half way point between Norfolk and Suffolk especially with TW Gaze, it seemed to be the right thing and make sense.”
Providing a space for traders to display their wares, the pair already have more than 20 different dealers selling their items in the emporium.
But not just wanting to run a business Ms Lewis and Mr Knight also want to foster a friendly community for traders and customers alike, a create a place where they can talk about antiques and interesting items.
“We want to try to make this a bit of a social hub, we want the traders to interact with each other, and we want the traders to be very involved.
“The reaction we have had so far has been so positive, we have been knocked out by it since opening.” Said Ms Lewis
“We have got to know people and some are already recommending other people, we’re building a net work and community.”
Diss Emporium is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am-4pm with the cafe closing at 3pm each day.
