Whether corks were popping when the sellers heard we can only guess, but a Norfolk auction room were celebrating after seeing a sought after bottle vintage champagne sell for £2,000.
The 1952 Krug Champagne Private Cuvee attracted online bidders when it went under the hammer at a Wines & Spirits sale at TW Gaze in Diss.
A bottle of Macallan 18 year single Highland Malt Scotch whisky, distilled 1977, also exceeded the estimate fetching £1,500.
Lisa West, sale organiser and auctioneer, said: “You don’t often see this vintage Krug and the bottle was in really good condition. It could either be a collector or someone who wants it to drink for a special occasion.
“We weren’t expecting the Macallan to sell for that price, but we had interest on the internet. Perhaps it was just missing from someone’s collection.”
Other notable sales were a 12-year-old bottle of Springbank Campbeltown Malt Scotch whisky for £700, Scottish Wildlife Port Ellen 10-year-old single malt for £550, and a bottle of Bunnahabhain 17-years0old Gordon & MacPhail at £550.
