It’s not often we are blessed with beautiful sunshine, so when we are, we want to make the most of it - right? But with temperatures expected to soar over 30C you want to stay cool too.
Have An Ice Cream
Grab a cone and chill out in the sunshine. John Miller has been selling ice cream on the high street and Mere of Diss for more than 20 years. He has a range of six flavours. His favourite is raspberry ripple.
Diss Deli and Espresso bar in St Nicholas Street prides itself on its quality coffee and in the hot weather they’ve also been offering home made iced coffee.
Work up a tan - or sit in the shade - and catch a little culture at the same time over in Diss Park where pedal-powered open air Shakespeare company the HandleBards are staging Romeo & Juliet on Sunday.
Have A Picnic
Roll out the picnic blanket and tuck into a wicker hamper stocked with finger sandwiches, sausage rolls and strawberries. Diss Park is the obvious place but there are plenty more places to find a shady spot.
Wander in Nature
Home to insect-eating plants and Britain’s biggest spider, the fen raft spider, the dramatic fenland landscape of Redgrave and Lopham Fan, just down the road, is one of the most important wetlands in Europe.
Go For A Dip
Diss once had an outdoor swimming pool but nowadays if you want to take a cooling dip it is indoors at Diss Swim on Victoria Road. If you really want an open air swimming pool you could head to Beccles Lido.
